I made a trip down from Estepona from Barcelona and thought I’d share the amazing things to do in this Southern Spain gem. Southern Spain is a must-add to your Spain travel itinerary.

Background on Estepona, Spain
Estepona is locally called the “Garden of the Costa del Sol” owing to the outdoor living of the Estepona, people. Being typically a southern Spanish seaside resort in Andalusia, Estepona is one of the most idyllic coastal resorts. If you are visiting Europe, Estepona, Spain is one place you wouldn’t want to miss in your list.
Estepona has some of the luxurious beaches on the Costa del Sol, along with a wide range of leisure activities. It has exciting hotel destinations with beautiful historical centers and ports. Estepona weather is favorable for all your outdoor activities and will allow you to enjoy every day of your vacation.
It’s relatively easy to get to the Malaga, Spain or Estepona area from Barcelona or other major Spanish cities. It is especially easy to get to Estepona if you are flying into Sevilla, Spain.
You can fly on Ryanair or use CheapOAir to find your best rate. However, trains from Barcelona to this area can be as low as $50, so go the cheap route and head south for some fun in the sun. What is not to love about an area named after the sun?

There are so many things to do in Estepona, but I highlighted several of the most important and fun things to do during a holiday. Here are the 7 of the most exciting things to see and things to do in a Costa del Sol holiday in Estepona, Spain:
Visit the Orchid and Botanical Gardens
One of the best things you can enjoy in Estepona, Spain is viewing the beautiful botanical and orchid gardens. The first thing that will capture your attention is the outside of the orchid garden. It is a fascinating state of the art building that includes three glass domes. The inside is pretty breathtaking too with beautiful vertical gardens of plants.
The stunning gardens are host to over 8000 species. The plants and cluster of species are said to be the biggest collection in Europe. The orchid garden tour is self-guided with several explanatory plates written in Spanish and English in different points. The orchid house otherwise called parquet botanica Orquidario also features a 55-foot high waterfall.
Tour the Archeological Museum
If you’re in Spain, then make a point of visiting the regional archeological museum. It is located in the Old Town Hall at Plaza Blas Infante. The museum is house to over 400 artifacts from different periods. The oldest piece is from the Palaeolithic period or rather the Old Stone Age. Some of the objects found in the museum are around 100,000 years old.
If you visit Estepona Spain, then don’t fail to visit the museum. You’ll see one of the most valuable artifacts in the museum, a small clay figure known as la venus de Estepona. The 5cm figure artifact is said to be over 5,000 years old and was discovered in 2011 during the excavations before building a hospital.

You will see fresh fish hanging in rows to dry, have a great sight of the marina and the fishing port and might even see flocks of seagulls accompanying the fishing boats. It is one place that you can never go hungry since the many restaurants here have a great variety of dishes, from Italian, Chinese Indian among others. You don’t have to feel left out by eating what you are not comfortable with, because you choose your delicacy.
Sightseeing Ruta De Los Murales
Apart from the beautiful gardens and historical sites, Estepona, Spain has found another way of bringing beauty to the town center. By allowing the artists to showcase their talents on the blank facades in the city, this combination creates scenes that will blow your mind off. The artists have the freedom to express their skills on the city buildings thus decorating the once blank walls into colorful pictures that you will love watching.
Enjoy the Estepona Selwo Adventure
A visit to Estepona is not enough if you’ve not visited the Selwo Aventura. The safari park is home to over 2000 animals that include elephants, white rhinoceros, gnus, meerkats, red pandas, giraffes, tigers, lions, to mention but a few. Birds of different species such as hornbill, ibis, stork, and crane are also in plenty.
If you love nature, then you’ll enjoy a safari adventure at Selwo. Tourists go for a 4-hour tour both on foot and in a four-wheel drive. You can get close to goats, lemur, and zebra foals. They also have a mini zoo for turkeys, chicken, pigs, sheep, and rabbit.
The adventure can never end at Selwo with activities such as riding the 116m zip wire which is the longest in Europe, walking the path of the hanging bridges, archery, elastic jumper and camel rides among other amusing adventurous activities being the order of the day.
Sunbathe at Playa del Cristo
The magnificent curved beach of Playa del Cristo forms the pinnacle of the beach resorts in Estepona, Spain. The beach has cool quite weather which is free from strong breezes and currents. The environment here is so relaxing quiet that you won’t want to leave the place. Particularly if you have kids, and want them to play safely without worrying, then you should visit Playa del Cristo for sunbathing.
The water is so clear that you enjoy by just staring into the open sea. The water from this side of the beach is also quite warm and thus evening swims can be enjoyable. Taking an evening stroll on the beach here is amazingly interesting also as you enjoy the view of the clear skies and calm blue sea water.

Estepona, Spain is a great holiday destination that you should put in your places to visit this season. I love going to warm climate locations in Europe because you get the best of all worlds: the weather, the architecture and the amazing food. Good part about Estepona is that you can make easy day trips to Alhambra Palace and other amazing sites.
